In the fall of 2013, Will Hinton, an art professor, approached Ashley Holland, a Community Director in one of the residence halls, and stated that he wanted to build a retention wall–not for a yard but for the students of Louisburg College. Ashley thought it a wonderful idea and the two began to move forward on the project. Will showed Ashley the TED talk video for “Before I die” and they decided to make their wall a two-part expression piece. On one side, students would be able to fill in the “Before I die, I want to: _______” information and on the other, there would be a pattern collage where students would be able to leave their mark with words of wisdom or a signature. This collaboration would not have been successful without the Faculty Fellows program at Louisburg College; a program that pairs on faculty member with one Community Director (Residence Life professional) for one residence hall.
