Projects in Contemporary Art (PICA) is an art class at Riverdale Country School in NYC that explores the potential of contemporary art to engage a high school community. PICA re-created Candy Chang’s piece and then turned it into a 14-monitor video installation titled “VioLense,” which explored the relationship between media screens and gun violence in America. The piece presented statistics, images, words, and video loops of gun law news footage, the video game Black Ops, an explosion, and scenes from an FBI gun lab.  Relevant goals were added to the wall, like “Before I die I want to save a life,” and “I want to see peace.”

I want to see peace.
